Door To Door – Day 0 “Opportunity is Knocking At The Door”

Capture2Over the past two months I’ve vigorously been searching for an internship in tech sales. Coffees, informational interviews, office tours, cold emails on LinkedIn, networking nights, touring other universities.. You name it!

Last week there was a recruiter from a smart home technology company tabling in TRSM. I gave him a strong handshake and told him my story. Within 36 hours I was interviewed and heard the magic words “Welcome to the team.”

The twist here though, is that this is not a typical job. I will be working as a door-to-door salesman 60 hours a week in Halifax. 100% commission.

Ryan, Why?
I didn’t want just a summer desk job – I wanted an adventure. An adventure with rejection and risk. Yet, with opportunities to learn skills you can’t learn anywhere else, and to experience the same type of work that Mark Cuban and Richard Branson started their careers in.

As a bonus, they were kind enough to purchase a round trip flight for me to visit the headquarters in Utah, flying out tomorrow.

This experience will either make me or break me. Feast or famine. I might come home with empty pockets (and an awesome story) or I might come with double last year’s salary.

Take risks and always keep knocking.
